Do you remember Les Grands Voisins, that huge third-party space in the 14th arrondissement of Paris which, in addition to welcoming people in precarious situations and migrants, organized a whole program of solidarity and festivities for Parisians and local residents? If you, too, were disappointed when this third-place space closed, then you should be delighted to learn of theopening of a new venue, similar to Les Grands Voisins, this time in the 13th arrondissement, quai d'Austerlitz.
Called Les Amarres, this Seine-side venue has been opened by the Aurore Association and Yes We Camp - already behind Grands Voisins - in the former premises of the Ports Autonomes de Paris. A place to drink, share, chat and meet new people!
During the day on weekdays, over 300 men, women and children in vulnerable and precarious situations are cared for by some twenty social workers and volunteers involved in the project. On site, these people can eat, shower, rest, wash their clothes and charge their phones, as well as benefiting from legal and social support .
At the same time, 14 associations and organizations from the voluntary and social economy sectors, including Refugee Food, Réfugiés Bienvenue, Kabubu, Causons and Université et Réfugié.e.s, have workspaces and actively share the premises.
Then, from Wednesday to Sunday, once evening has fallen and the drop-in centers are closed, the buvette solidaire offers a festive, artistic and cultural program in the central hall and on the terrace, focusing on hospitality and social justice. In short, it's a convivial, participatory venue open to all, where those being cared for, local residents and Parisians alike, can meet and forge links.
