Every season, Ground Control, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, invites you to reflect on a theme, to debate and move forward together. From January 17 to March 24, set off into the land of dreams and the imaginary, alongside artists and experts, at avariety of events and around an exhibition in the world of Métal Hurlant. For over two months, take a fresh look at the fields of science fiction, fantasy, artificial intelligence, climate change and space exploration, which have always shaped our imagination of the future.
Time machines, aliens and magical powers are all part of our popular culture, through films and books. Human beings have always had a need to invent and imagine, allowing us to question the limits of society and sometimes to anticipate excesses. This theme is perfectly suited to the exhibition"La machine à rêver" (The dream machine), produced by the famous science-fiction and comics magazine, Métal Hurlant, and on view throughout the season.
Encounters, tournaments, shows, debates and activities for all ages await you to dream and see differently!
To kick off the first major theme of the year, Ground Control invites you to the "Ceci n'est pas un rêve" launch party. On the program: speeches, cocktails, opening of the exhibition by Métal Hurlant magazine and a festive program.
Through the creations and points of view of artists, musicians, science-fiction writers and thinkers, this weekend aims to astonish and question the sense or non-sense of a world - our own - that we're already sharing with artificial intelligences.
Usbek & Rica and its recently published book "Les Nouvelles Lettres Persanes" invite you to an afternoon of exploration around the question: can we still dream of desirable futures? On the program: a conference with the book's authors, moderated by Usbek & Rica editor-in-chief Blaise Mao, and a fiction writing workshop.
From awareness to struggle, stories convey the desires, ideas and emotions that can lead us to imagine a better world, and lifestyles more open to others. We can refuse, act rather than suffer, a dystopian present, and envision desirable futures. La Volte invites everyone to get to grips with social, ecological and civic issues.
Between comics, graphic art, music and cinema, Métal Hurlant unveils the diversity of its universe with meetings with authors and illustrators, book signings, live frescoes, ciné-rencontres and a closing artistic program. A great way to bring the exhibition to life beyond the bubbles!
From card games to board games, from musicians to actors, games are an indispensable tool for propelling us to the farthest reaches of our imaginations, dreaming of other realities and reshaping the rules. For an entire weekend, the Multivers boardgame boutique will be showcasing the workings and richness of gaming as a fun way of recomposing our world.
Between myth and reality, the brain is a complex machine that fascinates as much as it questions. To mark Brain Week, Inserm is delving into Leonardo Dicaprio's filmography to explore and reveal the mechanisms of dreams, emotional memory and cerebral creativity. On the program: mini-conferences led by researchers, interactive quizzes and a collective fresco to give shape to your wildest dreams.
For this special edition, Blu-eVelvet opens its film library for a spectacular evening. HitsuBlu invites exceptional drag artists to explore dreams and imagination in tableaux inspired by their favorite films. A 4Dx drag show full of surprises and references of all kinds.
At the start of the 21st century, the momentum of the "great discoveries" returns, as we head for the final frontier of our starry skies. Alongside the heavyweights of space exploration, a new generation of entrepreneurs, mad scientists and adventurers, worthy of the best science-fiction stories, are in turn aiming for the stars.
