Organized by the French Ministry of Culture, the Rendez-vous aux jardins event takes place every year in fine weather, when parks and gardens are in full bloom. All over France, more than 2,200 parks and gardens open their doors to curious young and old, to nature lovers and to those interested in flora and fauna, including almost 500 on an exceptional basis. The result: over 4,000 free or reduced-price events! A golden opportunity to discover private gardens and other hidden treasures of our regions.
This year's theme is "The 5 senses in the garden", highlighting the richness of the multi-sensory palette offered by gardens, from the beauty of a flower bed in full bloom, the delicious perfume at the bend in a path, the smell of humus after rain, the taste of juicy fruit picked straight from a shrub, the murmur of leaves animated by a breeze or birdsong, the clear sound of a waterfall, enough to let the mind wander...
On the weekend of May 31 to June 2, 2024, we're off to discover the most beautiful parks and gardens throughout France, including some exceptional sites usually closed to the public. It's an opportunity to take part in workshops, story readings and other fun and educational activities in these gardens, sharing exceptional moments with owners and gardeners.
Thousands of events await you over the weekend, including guided tours, demonstrations of expertise, discussions with professionals (botanists, gardeners, landscapers, etc.), musical walks and concerts. The aim of the Rendez-vous aux Jardins is to promote the richness and variety of historic and contemporary parks and gardens, and the preservation of cultivated nature throughout France.
The event also raises awareness of the many initiatives undertaken by the French Ministry of Culture, local authorities and private and public owners to conserve, restore and create gardens, and pass on knowledge and know-how. On a European scale, some twenty other countries, including Andorra, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Switzerland, are taking part in the Rendez-vous for the fifth year running.
