Good plan alert! Hidden away in a discreet corner of the Aux Vins des Pyrénées bar, Le 1905 offers lovers of cocktails and other surprising beverages a chance to step back in time to the early 20th century, in a Belle Epoque and, above all, good-natured atmosphere. This speakeasy, located in Paris's 4th arrondissement, opens its doors to the curious who have spotted the small, hidden staircase to the right of the bistro's façade, famous for having been Jim Morrison's wine cellar.
Venturing in, you'll"discover a cocktail bar hidden above the restaurant, a cross between an English apartment and a cabinet of curiosities". A magical, even atypical place, a sort of"London shabbi-chic where sixties-style velvet armchairs rub shoulders with marble tables and Belle-Epoque pedestal tables", with walls varying from Farrow & Ball green smoke to brown and burgundy.
The menu changes with the seasons. Try the "Sakeroni", made with saké, olorosso sherry, alchermes liqueur and syrah. Or go for something rounder and more distinguished with the "Gentleman Burglar", made with gin, white vermouth, white cocoa liqueur, Manzanilla sherry and mastikha, or the "Suzette", along drink reminiscent of the crêpe of the same name, made with rum fattwasher with hazelnut oil, Verjus, ramazotti, Grand Marnier syrup and Jasmine tea infused with orange peel.
Or indulge in the "Mistinguett", a fruitier cocktail made with calvados, Tequila eu the roobios, homemade red fruit syrup, Muscovado sugar and apple wine. As for the other drinks, we'll leave you with the surprise and invite you to come and discover these cocktails, each as tasty as the next. We also remind you that alcohol abuse is dangerous to your health, and should be consumed in moderation.
The new menu is the brainchild of Eliott Roule, a freshly arrived young head bartender, and Thomas Abd Ali, a bartender in his own right... and cocktails that the editorial team was able to try... And particularly enjoyed! The establishment's creations are incredibly refined, well-balanced and in keeping with the house theme. We particularly like the "Gentleman Burglar", a reference to Arsène Lupin, and its funky decor, as well as the "Mistinguett", a more girly cocktail based on calvados, tequila, homemade red fruit syrup and fresh lemon juice. One of our editor's favorites!
And for the lucky ones, an exclusive terrace, the most confidential in the capital, is also accessible, as well as a converted room completing the space, teeming with surprises and curiosities to discover... How about a trip back in time, folks?
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
