Gone are the days of point zero on France's roads, now the capital's most important Kilomètre Zéro is the bar with this sobriquet, located in a small street equidistant from Place de la République and Strasbourg Saint-Denis. A landmark for bon vivants.
Kilomètre Zéro isn't just a beer bar, it's also a microbrewery that brews its own vintages on site. Better still, the establishment also offers seasonal nibbles to accompany the pints of suds that flow in good spirits.
Behind the address are five up-and-coming boys, Romain, Emile, Thomas, Clément and Django, all driven by the shared desire to open a place that would bring together all their dadas - craft beer, good food and partying. And they've succeeded in doing just that with this ultra-convivial bar where the atmosphere is just right.
The space is split in two, with impressive brewing tanks on the left and the bar itself on the right. In the center, the counter and slate where you'll find the best beers. Starting with Breche, the house pale ale (€6.50 a pint), a must-try if only to appreciate the brewing expertise of the 5 truly passionate owners.
You can also try beers from other Parisian and French breweries, such as the Penrose brewery in Angers (a strawberry, vanilla and tonka sour; €9.50 a pint) or the O'Clock brewery in Yvelines (a generous stout; €8.50 a pint).
Kilomètre Zéro has also signed a collaboration with the Orville brewery, the first of many to come, putting it firmly on the map of the capital's (many) microbreweries. The beverage menu is subject to frequent change, and a beet sour should, at the time of writing, have already appeared on the slate.
To accompany the beers, there are plates to share (roast half-camembert €7, mixed board €14, fries and beer sauce €5.50) or to keep to yourself, such as the tartiflette (€14), also available in a vegetarian version, or the galettes bretonnes (€11) in a meat or vegetable version - the place aims to be inclusive.
A friendly bar where you can laugh, drink and eat, and which even offers a whole program of events (quizzes, exhibitions, piano-singing) throughout the year. What could be better?
