Do you know Fu Castella and his ultra-moist, melt-in-your-mouth cakes? If you don't feel like hanging out in the 13th arrondissement, you may be delighted to know that the house has just opened its new patisserie-tea room in the Marais, between Saint-Paul and Hôtel de Ville. Bigger and more spacious, with more choice and exotic ice creams to boot, we take you on a tour of this new gourmet spot.
If you haven't yet had the chance to sample Fu Castella's light cakes, this new address in the Marais district is an invitation to discover. This new tearoom welcomes you in a warm decor where you can savor exotic sweets inspired by Asia, in particular Vietnam and Japan. The founder, Mrs. NGUYỄN Nhung, has imported Castella, a cake of Portuguese origin, but deeply rooted in Asian culture, particularly in Vietnam where it is called Bánh Bông Lan. This dessert is distinguished by its airy texture and incomparable softness, a true fusion of Asian traditions and Western influences.
At Fu Castella, every cake is handmade, guaranteeing absolute freshness. The word 'Fu', meaning happiness and richness in Vietnamese, reflects the experience on offer: sweets that combine lightness and richness of taste. For lovers of novelties, the Fu Ice Cream, a mini Castella topped with a scoop of pistachio ice cream, chantilly and red fruits, or the Fuji with Madagascar vanilla, pandan and coconut cream, are must-tries. The more adventurous will be tempted by the famous durian roll. You either love it or hate it - it's double or nothing. During our test, we were surprised to see Parisians discovering and appreciating it, so it can happen.
The tea room doesn't just delight with its fluffy cakes, it also offers a selection of hot and iced teas and drinks cleverly chosen to accompany these delights. We chose the Matcha coco frappé and the Matcha haricot rouge with matcha ice cream, two very good discoveries.
Between chiffon cakes, tiered entremets and various homemade ice creams ranging from mango and yuzu to coconut and sesame, the hardest part will just be choosing.
Among the formulas, the FU TEA TIME for two is a good way to sample a little of everything, and at €22 for two, it would be wrong not to try it. It includes a choice of 5 mini Castellas, red fruits, nuts, creams (passion and custard) and a choice of two drinks. It's an ideal offer for sharing a gourmet moment as a duo.
With its pretty, modern, flower-filled room at the back of the store, this place is an invitation to relax and enjoy an exquisite tea time or snack, while discovering flavors from elsewhere.
For the curious, the full menu is available on their official website. A visit is essential to explore the many facets of this enchanting patisserie.
