One of the capital's most literary districts is the small village of Montmartre, home to many French artists. They often wrote some of their greatest works here, as they wandered its inspiring alleyways. Right next to the Moulin de la Galette, on the hilltop, you'll find theHôtel 4* Marcel Aymé, one of the three literary hotels in Paris, which honors the writer and his Passe-muraille, just a few streets away.
Whether you're a lover of literature, a tourist looking for a place to stay in Montmartre, or just passing through the capital and looking for a warm, comfortable hotel, the Hôtel Marcel Aymé is ready to welcome you, away from the noise of the city. The author's soul is in the walls, on which bits of his life or extracts from his works are recounted, in the multilingual books in the library that you can borrow for the duration of your stay, and in all the small details of the 39 rooms on site.
"I created the Société des Hôtels Littéraires to share my love of books with thousands of visitors I don't know," says Jacques Letertre, President of the Société des Hôtels Littéraires. Throughout France, seven luxury hotels offer guests the chance to immerse themselves in the world of famous authors, with three of them in the capital, all linked to a district that marked their lives: Arthur Rimbaud in the 10th arrondissement, Le Swann in the 8th and Marcel Aymé in the 18th.
Marcel Aymé left behind a number of famous works, including La Jument verte, which sits in the hotel's breakfast room, the famous Passe-muraille, a plaster sculpture of which crosses a wall visible from the entrance, and Traversée de Paris, a small book left on guests' bedside tables to immerse them in the writer's pen.
Each room, named after a character or a short story, is thematically decorated with a different watercolor by artist Jean Aubertin, a headboard with motifs recalling the titles of his books, and a pretty bathroom with white tiles resembling those of the Paris metro.
For ideas on where to go in historic Montmartre, a map in the breakfast room allows you to follow in the footsteps of Marcel Aymé and his favorite places in the 1950s, so you can start preparing for the day in the morning. The hotel also offers its guests local products, including NIBI coffee, roasted locally and delivered by bicycle, and " Les Choupettes de Chouchou " delicacies made in Paris.
You'll find single rooms for two or three people, but also a studio and an apartment, which can communicate to welcome larger families, just like at home! As for the top floor of this four-star hotel, it has a wonderful surprise in store for you, with superb views over the capital and the rooftops of Paris.
On one side, a piece of the Sacré-Coeur, on the other, the Eiffel Tower - enough for sweet dreams and an unforgettable stay!
