This July 14th, France celebrates its national holiday! In Paris, three highlights are particularly eagerly awaited: the military parade down the Champs-Elysées, the iconic fireworks display from the Eiffel Tower, and the concert on the Champ-de-Mars. Organizing these colossal events is no mean feat, as you'd expect. And so, every year, the Prefecture de Police announces traffic restrictions and security measures to oversee these unmissable celebrations. Parking, secure perimeters, car-free zones and closed metro and RER stations- this year's security measures are even more extensive.
On July 13 and 14, during the day and evening, an extensive public security program will be implemented in Paris and its inner suburbs. The aim is to combat crime and prevent public disorder. The forces of law and order will ensure compliance with the ban on the sale, carrying, transport and use of fireworks and pyrotechnic articles, in accordance with the decree of the Prime Minister and Order 2023-0797 of July 5, 2023. They will also ensure compliance with the ban on transporting fuel and pyrotechnic items, in accordance with Order 2023-00769 of July 5, 2023.
Particular attention will be paid to public transport, with increased surveillance of stations, especially those used to access the sites of the celebrations. Vigilance will be stepped up at the start and end of the night. Lastly, an appropriate judicial system will be put in place to deal with any infringement of these rules. From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., a traffic control system has been set up around several major areas of Paris, including the avenue des Champs-Élysées, the place de l'Étoile, the Louvre Museum, the Invalides, the Elysée Palace and the place Beauvau, the place de la Concorde, the place de la Madeleine, the Assemblée Nationale, and the quai d'Orsay. Movement and access in these areas will be regulated, in accordance with decree 2023-842 of July 12, 2023, which imposes restrictions on traffic and parking.
Drivers are advised toavoid the west of Paris, as well as the esplanade des Invalides and the place de la Nation from July 13 to 15, in accordance with order 2023-00832 of July 11, 2023.
Access to the parade area will be controlled in accordance with order no. 2023-817 of July 10, 2023, which establishes a protective perimeter. A pre-screening system for the public will be in place, including the opening of bags and jackets for inspection. In addition, barriers will be erected along the avenue des Champs-Élysées, with checkpoints for access to areas reserved for observing the parade.

To access the parade, pedestrians will have to pass through filtering devices at the following points:
For security reasons, stations and access points to the RATP and SNCF networks will be closed in the vicinity of the military parade site: Tuileries, Concorde, Champs-Elysées Clemenceau, Franklin D.Roosevelt, Georges V and Charles-de-Gaulle Étoile and Argentine stations will be closed to the public.
At 8:50 pm, a classical music concert will take place on the Champ-de-Mars, attracting an estimated 70,000 people. This will be followed by a fireworks display starting at 11pm and lasting around 30 minutes. To ensure safety during these events, two protection zones will be established from 3pm and 7pm respectively, in accordance with decree 2023-00845 of July 12, 2023 and decree 2323-00820 of July 10, 2023. These zones concern the Trocadéro, Champ-de-Mars and Eiffel Tower areas, where the concert and fireworks display will take place. Access and traffic will be regulated in accordance with decree 2023-00836, with a ban on protest gatherings and the carrying of dangerous objects or animals.
From 5 p.m., entry points with pre-screening and visual inspection of bags and luggage will be set up by the City of Paris around the Champ-de-Mars, between avenue Joseph Bouvard and avenue de la Motte-Picquet.
For security reasons, some transport stations will be closed: Champs-de-Mars Tour Eiffel station (metro line 8) will close at 3pm. From 7 p.m., Passy (metro line 6), Trocadéro (metro lines 6 and 9), Bir-Hakeim (metro line 6), École Militaire (metro line 8) and Pont de l'Alma (RER line C) stations will also be closed.
