Zôr, theChristmas Bone of Le Roch Hôtel & SPA is an original creation by chef Rémy Bérerd. The idea was to pay homage to Saint Roch, who gave his name to both the street and the hotel in which the chef officiates.
Saint Roch was the son of the governor of Montpellier. His parents had him late in life, dying when he was just 20. It was then that he decided to lead a pilgrim's life, taking half his fortune for the poor he met.
He went on pilgrimage to Rome, stopping off in several Italian towns afflicted by the plague, and endeavored to care for many of the sick. In the end, he contracted the disease himself and isolated himself in the forest.
Only the local lord's hound came to feed him, bringing him a loaf of bread stolen from his master's table every day. The latter, intrigued by the animal's activities, followed him into the forest and discovered the wounded saint, whom he was able to rescue.
Saint Roch owes his life to his dog, and it's to honor their memory that Rémy Bérerd has come up with a gingerbread bone that will delight both masters and their four-legged companions.
Zôr is a bone-shaped log made from a blend of spices and candied fruit, golden on the edge.
