Coronavirus: a “general public“ facemask for each French from May 11th Macron promises

During his fourth televised address since the beginning of the health crisis, French President Emmanuel Macron said that starting from May 11th “in compliance with mayors”, the State will enable each French to get a general public facemask in order to be protected from coronavirus.

It was an address highly awaited by French. This April 13th, President Emmanuel Macron addressed for the fourth time since the beginning of the health crisis in the country. After announcing the confinement was extended to May 11th, aids for families and companies, shut down of borders with non-European countries until further notice, Emmanuel Macron also addressed tests, promising France will be able to test “any person showing symptoms” starting from May 11th.

As for facemask, he said “to complete barrier gestures, from May 11th, in compliance with mayors, the State will enable each French to get a general public facemask” to be protected from covid-19.

So far, wearing a protective facemask was not mandatory but its use “could become systematic” from May 11th, “for the most exposed professions and for some situations such as public transit”.

So, to keep his promise, the Head of State said the production of facemasks in the country, for “caregivers” will be multiplied by five within three weeks. For the record, France has already ordered over a billion facemasks to China.

In the meantime, French have started making their own protective facemasks out of cloth thanks to tutorials very coveted by the general public.
