If wearing a facemask wasn’t then judged necessary, it’s now changing. While millions of protective facemasks have been ordered and given to field on the frontlines in the fight against covid-19 including the medical sector, this Friday April 3, 2020 the Academy of Medicine has unveiled their latest recommendations targeting the general public.
They say that even if wearing a “general public” mask – understand a DIY facemask – should be generalized and even made mandatory for necessary trips during confinement. A measure completing barrier gestures and respect of the confinement regulations that would lead to fighting the virus spread more properly.
The question about wearing a facemask or not in France and the effectiveness of DIY mask – with more and more tutorials on the internet – isn’t new. According to the latest recommendations from the Academy of Medicine, a DIY facemask is always better than no mask at all. As for health caregivers, they still should have priority on the famous FFP2 and surgical masks.
Still according to the Academy of Medicine, general facemask-wearing should go on even after deconfinement and “until control of the circulation of the virus assessed by the lack of new case reported for 14 days”.
