The issue about reopening schools amid the coronavirus epidemic is much written about. On May 11th, 2020, gradual containment exit started, and schools reopen depending on the parents’ will and along with a strict health protocol, kindergartens and primary schools welcomed students again.
Yet, this first deconfinement week, after barely reopening, schools are closing again in red area and in green area. How come? Suspicious coronavirus cases among staff and students.
In Haute-Garonne, Mayenne, Finistère, Cantal and Hérault, and even in Indre-et-Loire, some schools are closing, others are postponing their reopening. Precautionary measures following the discovery of cases positive for Covid-19 or showing suspicious symptoms.
Some cities such as Montreuil, Seine-Saint-Denis refused to open schools on May 11th, 2020. In a release, Montreuil mayor Patrice Bessac explained the notice was too short to welcome students again in good health conditions and postponed the reopening to May 18, 2020.
That same day should mark the return of junior high schoolers to their school in green area. According to Jean-Michel Blanquer, 150,000 students from sixth grade and seventh grade are expected to go back to school the second week of deconfinement.
As of Monday May 18, 2020, 70 Covid-19 cases have been reported in the 40,000 schools open. The Ministry of National Education and Youth says this morning on RTL that "every time, or almost every time, these are cases breaking out outside of school". He adds that "it' is inevitable that such things happen, but it remains in minority".
