Covid-19 is infecting young generations more than ever. As this Fall 2020, the coronavirus epidemic keeps on worrying health authorities and the executive, Île-de-France Regional Health Agency (ARS) director Aurélien Rousseau shared his concerns as for the particularly high incidence rate in people from 20 to 30 years old.
As a matter of fact, in this young group “17% of tests are positive” in Île-de-France. In concrete words, the incidence rate in young Île-de-France people is said to have exceeded 800 positive cases for 100,000 inhabitants. Even more worrisome on a short-term, “these numbers have been quickly increasing for now three days in elderly people” Aurélien Rousseau warns. “There is passing on between generations, and we are worried” he said to Jean-Jacques Bourdin on BFMTV-RMC.
Furthermore, the incidence rate skyrocketed in people aged 20 to 30 in a matter of days. Circa September 22, the virus was detected in 506 people for 100,000 inhabitants. In the Parisian area, this is also the percentage of beds in ICU taken by Covid patients that have health authorities worried. This Monday October 12, 2020, the ARS director says 42% of beds are taken by patients infected.
For these sick people, “the duration of hospitalization is the same as when the epidemic peaked in April” Aurélien Rousseau says. He warns that “up to 300 people a day could arrive in the hospitals in the next couple of days”. Crisis plans are activated in AP-HP hospitals, as well as in the other hospitals in the region.
