Interviewed this Friday February 12 by Europe 1, Gabriel Attal addressed the situation in North-Eastern France, specifically in Moselle. As a matter of fact, in this very department the number of SA variant cases reported is much higher than in the rest of France and Health Minister Olivier Véran actually is expected in Metz this morning in order to talk about the situation with local elected representatives and work on the most appropriate decisions to make.
According to the governmental spokesman, putting Moselle in a local-based lockdown in the coming days is possible. “Nothing is left out, everything is possible” he said, “if there are measure to make on a local basis, they will be made”. According to Attal, it is still possible “to stop the spread of Brazilian and South-African variants”.
Asked about the government’s current strategy that is not putting the country back on a nationwide lockdown, as many European neighbors have decided on this, Attal addressed the current situation including data: “If we take into account the global incidence rate and the global contamination toll, this is a high plateau but that seems to start decreasing. […] But variants are a game-changer” the spokesman also admits.
“We must do everything we can to prevent lockdown. But if we consider this is necessary, we will take our responsibilities”. To be continues in the day with Olivier Véran’s visit in Metz.
