At his press briefing on February 25, 2021, Prime Minister Jean Castex indicated that 20 départements had been placed under reinforced surveillance. One week later, three departments were added to the list. The decisive criterion: an incidence rate in excess of 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Since March 25, 2021, 13 new départements have been placed under reinforced vigilance: Ain, Alpes de Haute Provence, Ardennes, Indre et Loire, Isère, Jura, Loir et Cher, Loire, Lozère, Marne, Meuse, Orne and Savoie. In addition, 19 départements are now under hybrid containment.
