The energy voucher is a valuable aid for French households struggling with energy costs, covering their gas, electricity or heating bills. In 2025, the terms of allocation will change: households that have never received this voucher will now have to apply online before January 1, 2025 to benefit from it.
This new rule is the result of the abolition of the taxe d'habitation, which was used as an eligibility criterion. However, the amount of this assistance remains unchanged, ranging from 48 to 277 euros, depending on household income. Those already in receipt of assistance will continue to receive it automatically.
For new applicants, it will be essential to provide their household tax details and the electricity delivery point number of their main residence online, in order to check their eligibility. Beneficiaries will still be able to opt for direct payment to the energy supplier, simplifying bill settlement. Although the government insists that these procedures are designed to reduce the rate of non-use, some associations and elected representatives fear that this added complexity will dissuade some eligible households from applying for this assistance.
Don't forget to finalize the procedures before the end of December 2024 to receive the cheque at the beginning of 2025. This change is designed to ensure fair access to assistance for households in difficulty, at a time when energy costs remain a major concern for many French households.
