With work starting in March 2021, the Grand Palais is undergoing a major renovation scheduled for completion in June 2025. Didier Fusillier, in charge of overseeing the renovation of the Grand Palais, has declared, according to Le Parisien, that he wishes to transform the monument into a "Palais des fêtes".

After partially reopening to host the fencing and taekwondo events of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Grand Palais has closed its doors, not to reopen to the public until June 6, 2025. Didier Fusillier, currently president of the Réunion des Musées Nationaux-Grand Palais (RMN-GP) and in charge of overseeing the renovation of the Grand Palais, said on Monday morning that the Grand Palais would become a "Palais des fêtes" where it would be good to "get lost", "without even knowing what you might find there".

The aim of the work is to completely restore the building, weakened by the passage of time, and modernize its infrastructure. This vast 466 million euro project has resulted in the creation of an innovative technical slab for the nave, to help regulate the temperature during periods of heatwave in Paris. A brand-new venue, ready to welcome the future "Palais des fêtes", where dance, carnival, theater and much more will take place.
