France has just exceeded 100,000 dead to Covid-19. A tragic milestone enabling to establish a typical profile of the victims to this pandemic.

France records 100,000 dead to the Covid-19 epidemic. 100,000 dead since February 14, 2020 – the date marking the first official victim of this pandemic in France. 100,000 people – and as many families – upset by a virus that changed our lives out of the blue. “No face and no name will be forgotten”, Emmanuel Macron promised on Twitter. To date, no commemoration nor action has been planned by the government.

Many deaths yet enabling the country to establish a typical profile of people the most at risk to the virus and severe infection.

Covid-19 is more deadly in men than in women: 58% of the dead were men. Moreover, LCI has noticed that 92,600 people who died of the disease were 65+. 6,700 of them died between 45 and 65 years of age, 600 of them between 15 and 44 years, and a small dozen of them were children.

Two thirds of the patients are said to show a comorbidity factor such as cardiovascular issues, diabetes, or obesity. People living in densely populated urban areas are also more likely to catch the virus: Île-de-France (far ahead), the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Grand Est, Hauts-de-France, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur have suffered very deep loss during this pandemic. Western France has been more or less spares.

The deadliest period in France is set between November 2020 and April 2021, including about two thirds of the dead reported so far. Furthermore, almost three quarters of the deaths occurred at the hospital.

To try and end this dire trend, the government still bets on vaccination and health guidelines.
