With the Covid-19 epidemic back on the rise in France, the vaccination campaign continues across the country. On July 12, Emmanuel Macron announced the introduction of a health pass for access to a certain number of places accommodating at least 50 people, as well as compulsory vaccination for caregivers. " To avoid having to take strong braking measures, we need the health pass and vaccinations. We need to give ourselves the means to control this epidemic outbreak," explained Jean Castex on TF1's JT de 13h on July 21. So where do we currently stand in the progress of this vaccination campaign?
As of August 6, 2021, around three-quarters of French adults have already received at least one injection. 80.60 % of the population is at least primo-vaccinated, and 79.20 % of French people have received all the injections required according to their profile and vaccine.
Gabriel Attal welcomed this increase in the number of people vaccinated. "I can see that the overwhelming majority of French people are choosing to be vaccinated. Nearly three out of four adults have received a first dose. Ahuge number of appointments have been made and people are planning to be vaccinated in the coming weeks ", he declared during a visit to Avignon on Friday August 6.
France has thus finally reached the symbolic 50% mark. One French person in two is fully vaccinated; that is, they have received their two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or their single dose of vaccine, if vaccinated with Janssen, or after having contracted the virus.
In a press release, the DGS welcomes the fact that over 34 million French people (i.e. half the population) have been fully vaccinated.
The most advanced regions in terms of vaccination are Bretagne (64.8%), Normandie (64.7%) and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (63.6%). In these regions, over 60% of the population has received at least one dose of vaccine. The worst performers are the PACA region and Corsica, where only 57% of the population received their first injection.
The progress of the vaccination campaign seems to be in line with the objectives set by the government. " Since July 12, there have been over 3 million additional requests for vaccination. We've asked them to speed up, to deploy even more doses. In the next 15 days, we're going to open 5 million appointments. We'll have 40 million vaccinated by the end of this month, and 50 million by the end of August ", Jean Castex declared on TF1 on July 21. " I'd like to see 4 million vaccinations a week " from August onwards, he added.
According to some estimates, ideally 90-95% of French people should be vaccinated, regardless of their profile, in order to achieveherd immunity.
