This Thursday July 29, 2021, Head of AP-HP Medical Commission Rémi Salomon explained the fourth wave seems to have a “very moderate” impact on Paris hospitals. But, vigilance is required since it can still lead to “overwhelmed hospitals before the end of August”.

A “very moderatefourth Covid wave in Paris hospitals… This is what this Thursday July 29, 2021 Head of AP-HP Medical Commission Rémi Salomon explained to our peers from Franceinfo, specifying this epidemic wave should not be taken lightly. “In Paris hospitals, at the moment, the impact is very moderate, but for the past ten days, patients are coming back to the ER and some are hospitalized for severe infections”, he says.

He goes on: “So far, there is no problem finding beds in resuscitation services, but it could happen”. Salomon continues: “there could be overwhelmed hospitals before the end of August”. He adds the profiles of patients hospitalized have changed: “We are struck to see these are non-vaccinated patients, even younger than during the previous waves. This is quite logical since young people are less vaccinated than the oldest”, he adds. The same assessment has been made by La Pitié- Salpêtrière Head of Nephrology Gilbert Deray on BFMTV.

Late August might be complicated for the hospital staff. “It could be really extremely difficult, because we could have to call staff back from their leaves”, Salomon explains. A difficult moment but that could be diminished to limit hospitalizations… How? “By properly complying with health guidelines, we could fully flatten, that is to say reduce in an extremely significant fashion the number of patients hospitalized”, the Head of AP-HP Medical Commission also states. Consider it a call for vigilance, then.
