The fight against Covid involves vaccination… This Tuesday July 27, Alain Fischer warned about the necessity to get vaccinated to curb the epidemic, while the incidence rate increases everywhere in France. A warning the government’s “Mister Vaccine” already expressed earlier in July in JDD, explaining those waiting were “making a mistake”.

As the summer vacations have started for many French despite Covid, many of them are worried to see the Delta variant spread in France. This is why Alain Fischer – the government’s “Mister Vaccine” – once again insisted on the necessity to get vaccinated to be done with coronavirus. It is “absolutely urgent to get vaccinated”, the President of the Vaccinal Strategy Board told France Inter this Tuesday July 27, 2021.

He went one, saying the Delta variant “induces an increase in the hospitalization toll in France, in ICU”, while considering the “50 million milestone will be a major step”. A warning Fischer already made earlier in July about those waiting to get vaccinated. In an interview with Journal du Dimanche released this past July 4, the President of the Vaccinal Strategy Board considered those waiting were “making a mistake”.

Interviewed by JDD about people between 18 and 45 years of age who would rather wait, Fischer explained that “if vaccinated today, they are protected by Fall”, despite the fourth wave currently hitting the country.

All will be decided within the next two weeks” to prevent “a fourth wave caused this time by the Delta variant, renewal of contacts, when school begins again, and more virus-friendly climate”, Fischer also told JDD reminding that one dose is not enough to be protected from variants. “It is not enough; it has been showed regarding the Delta variant. One injection protects at 50 or 60%. With two doses, it reaches 90%”. Statements confirmed by the European Medicines Agency earlier this month.

Still in Journal du Dimanche, Alain Fischer explained “the battle (against Covid-19, Editor’s Note) will be harder for 18-40 years old: projections show 60 to 70% of them will eventually be vaccinated. Rates forecasted are not enough to control the virus and reach herd immunity”.

There will still be infections, hospitalizations, admissions in intensive cares and death. Including likely consequences in terms of restrictions: closure of schools, more lockdown…”, he concluded.
