But searchers from the Institut Pasteur think a major resurgence of the epidemic this winter is rather “unlikely”. They say that on the condition restrictions are still up, the lower temperatures are not likely to cause another outbreak. Their optimism yet is cautious – as a precaution – as these are only scientific calculations.
The country’s high Covid-19 vaccine cover is important enough to prevent “very restrictive measures such as curfew or lockdown”, the Institut Pasteur states. But, in the event of slackened health guidelines, the epidemic could still “generate major pressure over the hospital system”. Especially if a flu epidemic is added – like it did for winters before Covid-19.
The Institut Pasteur softens this optimist idea with the probability to see new variants break out or vaccine grows less effective over time. They think the spread of the virus “is difficult to anticipate and the dynamic of the epidemic can change quickly”. So please, stay cautious for the months to come.
As of October 7, about 68% of 12-17 years of age were fully vaccinated, and 87% of adults, according to the Health Minister.
