The coronavirus epidemic goes on in France with the spread of the Omicron variant. The fifth wave has led to record-breaking data in the incidence rate and new contamination toll. A situation that led the French government to make new measures to try and curb the spread of Covid-19 and work for the implementation of a vaccine pass.
This December 27, the government announced the reimplementation of gauges for public gatherings. Since January 3, 2022, events have been limited to 2,000 people, when taking place indoors, and 5,000 people outdoors, starting from Monday January 3, 2022, and for 3 weeks. Note the measure does not apply to political meetings.
How long are these measures on? This Thursday January 20, 2022, the executive gathered a health defense council. On the agenda, the first features of a calendar to lift restrictions. During the press brief of Prime Minister Jean Castex and Health Minister Olivier Véran, the calendar has been specified more in details. Gauges are to be lifted from February 2, 2022 in all public places, on the condition people wear a facemask when indoor. This is good news coming with the end of compulsory outdoor facemask-wearing, and the end of compulsory work-from-home - that yet remains recommended.
Please note that more restrictions are to be lifted from Februayr 16, 2022, especially including the reopning of nightclubs, the possibility to eat and drink while standing in bars, stadiums, movie theaters, and public transit, and the resume of standing shows.
