To mark the Journées du Patrimoine 2024 (Heritage Days 2024), the public institution in charge of preserving and restoring Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral will be staging a series of events on the cathedral's forecourt on September 21 and 22, 2024.

During the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days ) in September, visitors flock to the museums and monuments of Paris and the Ile-de-France region to discover the capital's many secrets!

Although the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral is closed due to the fire that ravaged it in April 2019, these Journées du Patrimoine are an opportunity for this beautiful grand dame to meet the curious. Parisians and Ile-de-France residents are expected to take part in a variety of events on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024.

The program for this new edition of the event includes meetings, conferences, demonstrations and participatory workshops in the worksite village on the cathedral forecourt throughout the weekend. Plunge into the heart of the Notre-Dame de Paris restoration site and discover the different trades involved. So, why not take advantage of the 41st Journées du Patrimoine to follow the progress of the restoration work, until the famous cathedral is once again open to the general public? Discover the program below!

Programme of the Journées du Patrimoine 2024 in front of Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral:

  • Notre-Dame de Paris construction village
    September 20 - 22

Once again this year, the public institution in charge of restoring the cathedral will be hosting a "Village du chantier" on the cathedral's forecourt to mark the European Heritage Days.
The aim of these days is to highlight the restoration work carried out on the cathedral, as well as the site trades involved. They provide an opportunity for visitors to meet the site's craftsmen through participatory workshops, demonstrations and conferences.
7 areas will enable the public to discover the work carried out on the building since 2019 through demonstrations. They will discover the trades of carpenter, sculptor, cabinetmaker, painting restorer, stone mason, roofer and ornamental co uvurer, crane operator, scaffolder, as well as project management and fire safety.

An area reserved for children aged 6 and over will be devoted to participatory workshops:
    - Two hands-on workshops will enable children to put themselves in the shoes of the site's master glassmakers and sculptors.
    - A workshop will enable children aged 7 and over to discover several activities from the educational kit. Through these fun and educational games, each child can discover the jobs on the building site and become an architect, a carpenter or a scaffolder!
    - A workshop for children aged 7 and over to discover the building site and its jobs thanks to a complete activity book, produced by Glénat in partnership with the public institution Rebâtir Notre-Dame de Paris.
    - Two workshops around the release of Lego®Notre-Dame de Paris, accessible according to the age of participants. Younger participants, aged 6 to 12, will be challenged to build a gargoyle in record time. Those aged 12 and over will work together to build the Lego® Notre-Dame de Paris.
"Flash" conferences, lasting around ten minutes each, will be given by people involved in the construction site throughout Saturday and Sunday.
Finally, Friday and Saturday evenings will be devoted to a special cultural program, including concerts.
