Bread for the Journées du Patrimoine? It's a French art that's often imitated, but never equalled. A tradition that is even listed as a World Heritage Site! Without a doubt, it's well worth a little museum dedicated...

Welcome to Commeny, a charming village of around 500 inhabitants in the Val d'Oise. This small village in the French Vexin region boasts a four-century-old farmhouse, a listed church... and a bread museum! In the heart of this cereal-growing region lies the Maison du Pain museum, an unusual historical and educational site.

This museum, located in the former flour loft of a bakery still in operation, welcomes the curious and the gourmet, and offers tours dedicated to thehistory of bread.

Considered one of the world's oldest foods, bread has undergone many changes since the first patties were concocted in prehistoric times. From the growing of wheat to the baking of baguettes, this museum retraces all the stages in the creation of bread, stages that differ from one century to the next. The museum puts our senses on alert, as visitors are also invited to knead or taste the commented "works".

Normally, this unusual museum is only open to groups, by appointment. So take advantage of the Heritage Days on Sunday, September 22, 2024, to visit this exceptional place hidden away in the small village of Commeny.

    On Sunday September 22, the public will be welcomed from 2pm to 6pm, at the Maison du Pain. Participants will be able to watch a video on the cycle of wheat, flour and bread. There will also be a bread tasting and a family quiz on the old tools of the baker's trade!
