During the Journées du Patrimoine, get off the beaten track and take advantage of the exceptional openings of museums, monuments, institutions and unusual places, on September 21 and 22, 2024! Over the course of a weekend, explore the capital in search of the most beautiful architecture, the greatest mysteries and anecdotes, which your guides will be delighted to tell you about during tours and workshops, many of which are free of charge!
Why not slip underground for this latest edition of the JEP? The Capucins underground quarries are open to the public, reminiscent of the Catacombs! These ancient limestone galleries, quarried between the 12th and 17th centuries, lie beneath the 14th, 13th and 5th arrondissements, including theCochin hospital, part of Boulevard de Port-Royal and Rue de la Santé.
It's also an opportunity to visit the Port-Royal cloister, part of the former Cistercian abbey, 18 meters above the 1.2km-long quarries, and learn about the history of Jansenism and the reign of Louis XIV. This magnificent building, now part of the Cochin hospital complex, is full of anecdotes...
Discover a unique place in the heart of Paris: the chapel, the Chœur des Religieuses (nuns' choir), the Salle Capitulaire (chapter house), the balustered staircases (including the "escalier des miracles"), the galleries and the garden.
Dive into the bowels of the hospital to visit the Carrière des Capucins: a centuries-old quarry, a listed historic heritage site brimming with historical treasures.
