Some of the most beautiful churches in Paris are opening their doors to the public for the Journées du Patrimoine. This year, the church of Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais awaits us from September 21 to 22, 2024 with an attractive program.
Located opposite the Hôtel de Ville, theSaint-Gervais-Saint-Protais church is a little-known gem of Parisian heritage. Its origins date back to a consecration in 1420, and it took almost 150 years to give it the appearance we know today. With its imposing western facade completed in 1621, it was to inspire other churches in the capital.
You'll be amazed by the interior, which, despite the trials of time and history, has retained its original charm. Its flamboyant Gothic architecture places it among the Renaissance churches of Paris, such as Saint-Étienne-du-Mont. And what about the 16th-century choir stalls or the magnificent 16th-century stained glass windows, probably the work of Jean Cousin and Jean Chastellain?

L'Orgue des Couperins: discovery concert
As part of the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days), the organists of Saint Gervais are offering a commented concert followed by a more detailed presentation of the instrument in small groups, with access to the gallery!
Calligraphy of a biblical passage, a word of the Gospel, a psalm... it's a wonderful way of getting in touch with oneself through the patient movement of the hand, putting oneself in prayer with all that one is, and bringing the Bible into the heart, in the manner of the ancient monks, through the senses, through looking, touching, through the material of paper and ink...
The workshop, led by a sister from Jerusalem, will take place in the Saint-Joseph chapel of Saint-Gervais church.

We open the doors to the restoration site of the church of Saint-Gervais Saint-Protais. Here, you'll learn all about the craft of stonemasonry.
