Created in 1984 by the French Ministry of Culture, the European Heritage Days have become a not-to-be-missed event for lovers of history, art and culture. Every year, on the third weekend in September, thousands of monuments, museums, castles and other sites usually closed to the public open their doors. In Paris, this event is particularly eagerly awaited, offering residents and visitors alike the opportunity to explore the capital's emblematic sites, often in ways never before possible.
For this 2024 edition, numerous venues across Paris and the Île-de-France region are offering guided tours, temporary exhibitions and events for all ages. Don't miss the visit to the Élysée Palace, the exceptional tour of the Senate, or the discovery of the hidden treasures of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. Away from the capital, sites such as the Château de Versailles and the Basilique de Saint-Denis invite you to immerse yourself in French history.
Among the places to visit is the Maison de l'Europe de Paris, in the 4th arrondissement. This institution tells the story of the European Union, its member countries... Founded in 1956, the Maison de l'Europe's mission is to promote the European ideal and encourage dialogue between European citizens. During the Heritage Days, it offers conferences, exhibitions and meetings to help you better understand today's European issues.
Launched in 1985, the European Heritage Days have been organized jointly by the Council of Europe and the European Union since 1999. The themes of the 2024 European Heritage Days will be "Heritage of Routes, Networks and Connections" and "Maritime Heritage". On this occasion, we invite you to discover the European d'Artagnan Route, a Council of Europe cultural itinerary, through an afternoon of cultural events and activities, followed by a round-table discussion entitled "Film star, literary hero, little-known historical figure: who is d'Artagnan?
In partnership with the Route Européenne d'Artagnan and the Société des Amis d'Alexandre Dumas.
Michel DERDEVET, President of the Maison de l'Europe in Paris, welcomes Odile BORDAZ, biographer of the musketeer d'Artagnan, and Patrick DE JACQUELOT, lecturer and collector.
