Every year, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) offer us the opportunity to discover or rediscover the capital's monuments, museums, churches, places of power and culture, over the course of an exceptional weekend. More than 1,500 sites are taking part in this event in Paris and the Île-de-France region: enough to satisfy all those who are curious and passionate about history, on September 21 and 22, 2024!
Built as a hunting lodge in 1494 by Henri Perdriel, Château de Médan was home to such emblematic figures as the 16th-century poets of La Pléiade, including Ronsard and du Bellay. Later, Henri IV came to hunt and stay, and a farm was added to the estate. Closely linked to the world of literature, the estate has been marked by significant architectural additions and illustrious residents, such as Belgian symbolist and Nobel Prize winner Maurice Maeterlinck, who lived here until his exile to the USA in 1939.
Paul Cézanne painted three pictures of this historic monument, surrounded by the Yvelines countryside.
