The town of Noisiel is taking part in the Journées du Patrimoine 2024, telling the story of the former Menier chocolate factory and its Cité ouvrière, on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September!
A small town of medieval origins, located in the Seine-et-Marne region, Noisiel is home to a surprising and highly attractive piece of heritage. On the banks of the Marne, you'll find the Menier chocolate factory and its Cité ouvrière, remnants of France's great 19th-century industries.
Although the Chocolaterie stopped making chocolate in 1992, the site remains unique: in Noisiel, you'll discover an exceptional heritage, formed by the Chocolaterie and the workers' housing estate founded in 1898, which provided 312 families with a healthy living environment - with agricultural estates, a school complex, retirement homes and even a private fire department. This "paternalistic system" has been listed as a historic site, so that theMenier Empire can be seen by all without risk of degradation.
