Goodbye Autolib and hello carsharing! Renault gets in the race and its electric cars should be available in self-service in Paris from September 27, 2018.

Good news for Autolib nostalgic people: in the end, it wasn’t long before an alternative is available in Paris. From September 27, 2018 Renault throws itself into carsharing!

But what is it actually? And most of all, what’s the difference? Carsharing is simply a system of self-service cars. Like Autolib, you only pay for your trip. But instead of looking for a stating where to park the borrowed car, you only have to leave it on a parking spot. It’s based on the same system that work – for instance – the electric scooters that took over the French capital.

So, starting September 27, 2018, electric Renault Zoé cars available in self-service should be deployed in Paris and Clichy before conquering other territories. According to Christophe Najdovski (Mairie de Paris deputy) interviewed by France Bleu, 500 cars of this kind should be available by the end of the year. Yet, Renault won’t be the only one to provide this service since Peugeot also plans to put 500 cars for carsharing.

Alright then, but what about Autolib terminals? Still according to Christophe Najdovski interviewed by France Bleu, Paris authorities think about a subscription card for €20 per month for electric car owners so that they can use the terminals to charge their cars.
