Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the Grand Mosque of Paris is shutting down until further notice in order to limit the propagation risks of the virus.

This Friday March 13, 2020, the government announces new measures to curb the propagation of the virus on the French soil including the ban of public gatherings of over 100 people in a confined space. Following this announcement and the day after Head of State Emmanuel Macron’s address, the cultural life in Paris is highly suffering.

In Paris, museums and monuments are shutting down, many events, shows and concerts are cancelled or postponed. After the Eiffel Tower, Disneyland Paris, the Palace of Versailles and the Louvre, it’s the Grand Mosque of Paris that is shutting down until further notice. This measure aims at limiting the risks of the virus propagation in the French capital.

Set in the heart of the Latin quarter, the Grand Mosque of Paris stands out with its 33m high minaret and by its architecture inspired by Almohad Morocco and the Al-Andalus Iberian Peninsula. By the way, it’s the oldest mosque in metropolitan France. This religious building is also an exotic haven of peace with a tearoom and very coveted by foodies craving nice Oriental pastries.
