The City of Paris launches phase 2 of its Bicycle Plan! After a first program (2015-2020) worth 150 million euros, the new 2021-2026 plan further strengthens the place of cycling in Paris and continues the development of a city designed for cyclists.

The City of Paris' 2021-2026 Bicycle Plan is a continuation of the initiatives undertaken to make the capital a 100% bikeable city! With a budget of 250 million euros, the Plan Vélo aims to transform Paris into a cycling city, accessible to all.

The plan calls for the development of an additional 180 kilometers of cycle paths, including the extension of the"coronapistes" created during the health crisis, representing 52 km of paths. According to the City of Paris, the aim is to create a continuous, safe cycling network connected to the rest of the metropolis.

Priorities also include the creation of dedicated parking spaces, with 130,000 new spaces for bicycles, including secure parking facilities near stations and public transport stations. The number of bicycle thefts has actually increased in recent years, and the City of Paris is keen to implement more viable solutions. At the same time, the Plan Vélo focuses on the development of bicycle services, with subsidies for the purchase of electric bicycles, subsidized repairs and training to encourage use.

The City of Paris therefore has a twofold ambition with the Bicycle Plan: to reduce car use and strengthen the role of bicycles in the daily lives of Parisians, while at the same time contributing to the ecological objectives of reducing CO2 emissions. A major challenge for a capital in full transition to more sustainable mobility!
