The new deconfinement map disclosed this Thursday May 28, 2020 marks the return of the orange areas for Île-de-France, Mayotte, and French Guiana. So, in concrete words, what does it change for inhabitants?

Since France has started to exit containment, it has been divided into two parts: depending on the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic, regions were in red area or green area with more or less strict measures since May 11th.

As phase two of the containment exit is upon us, PM Edouard Philippe spoked to explain the new rules related to this step starting June 2, 2020. On the occasion, he disclosed the new deconfinement map from which red areas have disappeared. The country is now mostly green excluding Île-de-France, Mayotte, and French Guiana that are now orange.

But what does it mean? In those departments, the virus is still more active in other regions, which requires to be more cautious than anywhere else during phase 2. So, what can we do or not in orange area?

Outings and leisure

If in red area parks and gardens were closed, in orange area, they can reopen starting this weekend. From June 2, cafés and restaurants can welcome patrons again but only on terraces and given the following conditions: 10 people maximum around a table, minimum 1-m distance between table and mandatory facemask for the staff and patrons when moving around.

Everywhere across France, museums and monuments can reopen from June 2, so can beaches, lakes, and water bodies. Swimming pools and gyms, leisure centers (including theme parks), show venues, and theaters can reopen from June 22nd in orange area. On the same day, movie theaters will also reopen in the country. Yet, nightclubs, arcades, stadiums, and hippodromes remain closed at least until June 21, 2020. Moreover, collective and contact sports remain banned, and so are gatherings over 10 people all around the country.

Education

In orange area, junior high schools will be gradually reopening from 6th to 7th grades starting from June 2. Technical colleges are allowed to reopen to deliver certifications and provide private meetings to students. General high schools are also reopening for meetings.

Mobility and tourism

Phase 2 of containment exit also marks the lifting of the 100km limit. From now on, French people can travel freely across the country without having to justify it. Yet, as for tourism accommodations, holiday village, family holiday homes, inns and campsites will reopen from June 22 in orange areas. And campsites will reopen on that same day in France.
