This past June, as France entered containment exit, the City of Paris announced that special places for restaurants on sidewalks were to open on some streets until September 30.
But because the virus is still actively circulating in Paris, the plan is extended to at least June 30, 2021. Goal? Supporting the economic recovery of these places and enabling to keep up with social distancing.
But the Paris Council - currently taking place to Thursday October 8, 2020 - may make things more complicated. Therefore, about 400 decision projects are currently being studied and subject to a vote. From the heated 5G issue to the exempltion of taxes, the Paris Council also expects to address the issue of the temporary terraces extensions.
The charter limiting these temporary terraces will be re-examined and could be submit to a reinforcement of the sanctions in case of non-compliance.
More and more local inhabitants are complaining about the noise pollution. This is the case by the Place Sainte-Catherine in Paris 4th arrondissement. As shared by Info du Jour, several local inhabitants did not hesitate to condemn "wild terraces" that have - according to them - originated noise pollution.
Since then, restaurants have had to remore their terraces set on the central reservation of the square, following a request from Center Paris mayor Ariel Weil, Info du Jour says.
So, the Paris Council could adopt heavier sanctions in case of non-compliance to this charter. Today, the fine reaches 135 euros maximum. It could reach 500 euros soon. Restaurateurs may also get their temporary terraces taken away.
