As Marseille and Guadeloupe have been listed as maximum alert area since September 23, we are now all looking at the 11 big cities listed on reinforced alert and especially Paris. The French capital has joined the Aix-Marseille conurbation on the new map of indicators.
On October 4 evening, the Prime Minister said that Paris and the inner suburbs of Paris (Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne) are now on maximum alert. Therefore, several restrictions have been unveiled on Monday October 5, 2020 by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo. They will be implemented from Tuesday and for two weeks, and are revolving around three main issues: limiting gatherings, preventing crowds and renewing measures already implemented.

Yet, Matignon said the AFP that restaurants could remain open in maximum alert areas with a reinforced health protocol. An announcement making Aix and Marseille restaurateurs happy as they can reopen on October 5 from noon.
For the record, the government takes three criteria into to put a department on maximum alert: an incidence rate over 250 cases for 100,000 inhabitants, an incidence rate over 100 cases for 100,000 people aged 65+, and areas where the share of patients with COVID-19 in ICU is over 30%. In Paris, the vigilance threshold has been exceeded on the three criteria, leading to the maximum alert position.
