France is said to reopen its borders on June 15, 2020. First limited to EU countries, French borders will gradually open to the rest of the world from July 1st. Only exceptions being travelers from Spain and the UK who will have to undergo self-isolation as a reciprocity. Derogatory trip certificates will no longer be needed.

In a press release published online this Friday June 12, 2020 evening, Secretary of the Interior Christophe Castaner and Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian have announced the traffic restrictions at the French borders will be lifted.

The government thinks the evolution of the health crisis in France and Europe is “favorable” to reopen Europe inner borders from June 15 at midnight. In concrete words, starting from June 15, people coming from an EU country can enter France without a derogatory trip certificate, and without having to self-isolate for two weeks. Roads are open, planes allowed to land, and boats to moor again.

Only exceptions being people coming from Spain by flight (until June 21), and travelers from the UK who “are invited to self-isolate for two weeks upon their arrival in France”. Why such a measure? Simply “by reciprocity”.

A few days are still required to get a precise schedule of the border opening with the countries of the rest of the world. Opening the borderswill be progressive and different depending on the health situation of the different countries, in compliance with the measures ordered on a European basis until then”.
