Visiting Montpellier to talk about his police policy, Emmanuel Macron addressed several topics, and especially body-worn cameras he announced in July 2020 already. Even though this past July the French President reacted to accussations of racial profiling of the forces of order, this time, it is about "better protecting" police officers and most of all "surveilling, managing delinquency and prevent it".
These past weeks, police officers have been faced with a new surge of urban violence with stones thrown at them and cases of ill intentions, to which the president respond with determination: "We'll give ourselves the ways, we'll give you the ways, because we owe you this".
The French Presidnet announced the generalization of body-worn cameras by the “end of the five-year term” to all police officers. “We have been speaking about it for too long” Emmanuel Macron said about the accusations of racial profiling by the forces of order to journalist Léa Salamé. “We will take everything from the beginning and generalize before the end of the five-year term the body-worn cameras enabling on matters such as operation fashion to restore trust with the French people and the police, (…), to track down the truth of the facts” he explained before adding “I will do everything to protect the French”.
For the record, body-worn cameras are those famous wearable cameras set on police officers during their shifts.
