A couple of hours prior to Jean Castex’ next press conference, the French are wondering if they will be able to celebrate Christmas with their families on December 24 and 25. According to France Info, banning trips for Christmas is an option Emmanuel Macron rules out.

Will lockdown be lifted on December 15 as planned? If so, will the curfew be instated earlier? Will cultural places reopen as announced for mid-December? Will trips for the Holidays be allowed? Questions Prime Minister Jean Castex will have to answer this December 10, 2020. The chief of the executive is expected to talk at the end of the day to address the next step of the progressive lockdown exit strategy, as the goal set by Emmanuel Macron (naming under 5,000 new cases per day) is not met yet. Yesterday, there were 14,595 new Covid-19 cases.

France Info says banning trips for Christmas is not an option for the French President, a source from Matignon has reported. BFMTV also confirms that trips from one region to the other will be allowed for Christmas. As for curfew, it will be lifted on December 24.

But what about the New Year’s Eve? Still according to France Info, Emmanuel Macron does not wish to differentiate between Christmas and New Year’s Day. He intends to manage the two events the same way.

On December 8, on LCI, Olivier Véran said that “everything can change” as for the Holidays. “Christmas is not New Year’s Day, we have to be even more cautious”, he added.

So, what will Jean Castex announce? Will curfew be implemented earlier? Will culture have to stay on hold for a while? Answers to be given this December 10 from 6 p.m.
