Coronavirus: 700 foreign workers “on the front line” will be naturalized

“They proved their attachment to the nation”. This Tuesday December 22, France’s minister delegate to Citizenship Marlène Schiappa’s office has announced that about 700 foreign workers who have worked on the front line against the coronavirus epidemic will be naturalized.

The coronavirus epidemic has led to a wind of solidarity in France towards workers on the front line fighting against the pandemic. They have had to work in very difficult conditions, also risking to be exposed to the virus. And among them, foreign workers have also had to face the epidemic on the front line.

This past September, minister delegate to Citizenship Marlène Schiappa insisted to enable foreign people to be able to become naturalized easier, enjoying the notion of “major service rendered”. It enables to lower between 2 to 5 years the necessity stay-length on the French territory before being able to apply for French citizenship.

Health professionals, cleaners, child caregivers, cashiers… They proved their attachment to the nation, it is now the Republic’s turn to make a step towards them”: this Tuesday December 22, Marlène Schiappa’s office says that since then, 74 people have become naturalized. 693 foreigners are about to be naturalized. All in all, the different prefectures in France have recorded 2,890 applications within three months.
