Since the health pass has been extended to many public places, people are confused. Between the different debates, modifications in the law, and the different exceptions, it is hard to see things clearly about it. So, when and where is the health pass required? In necessary places and stores
First of all, the health pass does not apply to necessary stores such as pharmacies, food stores, tobacconists, banks, bakeries, and even post offices.
In stores
At this point, the health pass is not required either to access “non-necessary” stores such as clothing, beauty, decoration and flower stores…
In shopping malls
At this point, the implementation of the health pass in shopping malls covering more than 20,000sqm is subject to prefectorial decision as the Prefect can decide whether or not to instate it depending on the department’s health situation. Note the access to necessary stores must be guaranteed, as well as to public transit.
In places of worship
Whether to visit or practice one’s cult (prayers, services…), the health pass is not required to access places of worship such as churches, mosques, and synagogues. Yet, if these places house a cultural event (concerts…), the health pass becomes mandatory.
What about weddings?
The health pass is required in rented locations already subject to the pass (restaurants, castles…), but it is not for ceremonies taking place in a city hall or place of worship.
In restaurants
The health pass is compulsory in cafés, bars, and restaurants, including on terraces. But, it is not in canteens and business restaurants or takeout. Truck drivers holding a professional card can also go to a road restaurant without having to show a health pass.
In means of transport
The health pass only applies to long hauls in TGV, intercité trains or planes. It is not compulsory in public transit such as metro, RER, tramway, transilient, and buses.
In hospitals and nursing homes
The health pass is required in hospitals for scheduled care but not for emergency. In nursing homes, the obligation only applies to visitors.
