This September 2024 back-to-school season has a lot of changes in store for us: pension increases, new tax rates, gas prices, we take a look at everything that's changing.

Here we are in September! And let's face it, there's change in the air. Let's take a look at the changes and innovations that await you in France, and particularly in Paris, from Sunday September 1, 2024.

Whether you're a pensioner, a motorist or a taxpayer, there are a number of adjustments to anticipate this month. Here's a roundup of the main changes to anticipate.

Revaluation of small pensions: a welcome increase

From September 1ᵉʳ, one million small pensions will be revalued, with an increase of up to 100 euros gross per month, on average between 50 and 60 euros. This measure, which concerns former salaried employees, shopkeepers and artisans who have contributed for at least 120 quarters, is retroactive from September 2023. This catch-up should represent between 600 and 720 euros for beneficiaries, or an additional 60 euros gross per month on average.

Gas prices: a slight drop in the reference tariff

Good news for gas-heated households: the reference price for gas has fallen slightly this month. Although the reduction is modest, it comes against a backdrop of fluctuating energy prices, giving households a small breath of fresh air in their budgets.

Taxes: a new withholding tax rate

The withholding tax rate is reassessed in September, following tax returns filed in the spring. Depending on changes in income, this rate may increase or decrease, with a direct impact on future salaries. Taxpayers can always request a change to this rate via their personal space on the tax site.

Higher parking fees for SUVs in Paris

In Paris, street parking for SUVs is becoming considerably more expensive. Indeed, the hourly rate for these vehicles has tripled in the first 11 arrondissements, rising to 18 euros. In the other arrondissements, the rate is now 12 euros per hour. This measure, the result of a citizens' vote, is designed to discourage the use of SUVs in the city.

Automated review of scholarship entitlements

For families with children at collège or lycée, the review of scholarship entitlement is now automatic, subject to consent at the time of re-enrolment. This procedure is designed to simplify access to grants for eligible families.

Agricultural projects: shorter appeal periods

Farmers will benefit from a reduction in the time taken to lodge an appeal for agricultural and hydraulic projects, from four to two months. The aim of this measure is to speed up project deployment by clearing potential disputes more quickly.

Return of restrictions on liquids in the cabin

For travelers, the 100 ml cabin liquid limit is back. While some airports had lifted this restriction, it has now been reinstated for security reasons, forcing passengers to comply with this strict rule.

These changes, although varied, affect different aspects of daily life and will have a significant impact on household budgets from September 1, 2024. By taking note of these changes, you can prepare to adjust your habits and finances accordingly.
