Every year, Earth Overshoot Day of the planet’s energetic resources lands in July. In 2022, France does worst than the rest of the planet, since in May, the country has already consumed for than its yearly limits.

Every year, Earth Overshoot Day marks the day humanity consumed more resources than what the planet can produce in one year. A date usually landing in July, and landing earlier every year. This May 5, 2022, France has already crossed the yearly consumption limits, making the country one of the worst on earth.

As a matter of fact, if all the planet lived, exploited and consumed like France, world’s Earth Overshoot Day who land three months earlier. And the day of ecological deficit comes earlier every year, since in 1974, the French date landed on June 3. The WWF Organization – calculating the overshoot day every year – wants to make of France a symbol and gave Emmanuel Macron a collection of propositions called “A five-year term to succeed against the ecological crisis”, inviting him to re-assess his country’s ecological impact.

The organization protecting the environment has come up with three scenarios about Emmanuel Macron’s ecological assessment in 2027. If nothing is done, the French Earth Overshoot Day will be two days ahead. In the second scenario, including Paris’ current commitments with the climate, it would land three days later, on May 8. And in the best of cases, it could land on May 30. But to do so, the country would have to stick to ecological planification with different measures such as reducing food waste, developing electric cars and reducing consumption.

In the meantime, within two months, France and the Earth will have to live on credit, running the precious resources out as the future generations could use. A few days ago, the sixth planetary boundary (out of nine) has been crossed: global freshwater use, causing a genuine risk for the humanity to come. To date, 1.7 earths would be needed to overcome the people’s need in a long-lasting fashion.
