From the beginning of spring, the nose starts to itch, you sneeze eight times in a row, a real hell, that pollen allergy sufferers know well. In Ile-de-France, as in the rest of the country, many plants generate pollen, which invades gardens and cities, which is why a red alert was launched in April. To alert more easily and raise awareness about the trees and plants concerned, the capital has set up a Sentinel Pollinarium, located in the heart of the Parc Floral de Paris.
This scientific tool provides health professionals and allergy sufferers with quick information on the beginning and end of pollination. The place also serves as an educational garden and allows people to learn about the allergic risks according to the plants that populate the city, without the risk of allergy. Created from scratch, the Pollinarium brings together the main allergenic plant species in the region.
The park's gardeners observe the plants, and can thus immediately inform of the presence of pollen in the air, allowing for early detection and warning before the first symptoms appear in allergy sufferers. Allergy sufferers can bewarned immediately and start their treatment to avoid suffering all spring. The information from the Pollinarium will also allow allergy doctors to confirm a diagnosis.
8 species of trees and 10 herbaceous plants from the region, including alder, birch, hornbeam, hazelnut, cypress, ash, plane tree, oak, willow and mugwort, are present, surrounded by explanatory panels for the general public. These panels provide details on the identity of the plant, its pollen, its ecology and its allergenic potential. Animations and visits of the garden will be organized regularly to raise awareness of the population to the problem of allergies.
