This new scheme will enable women and men who are victims of domestic violence to benefit from initial assistance to leave their homes during the initial stages. "Today, on average, a woman who wants to leave will go back and forth seven times, between the moment she wants to leave and the moment she does," explains the Minister of Solidarity. "She [la] doesn't necessarily have the means to leave," she adds.
So, from December 1, 2023, this emergency assistance will be set up within all Caisses d'allocations familiales and will be awarded to any person who is a victim of domestic violence (man or woman), provided they can attest to this violence with a document dating back less than 12 months to the date of application, the CAF explains on its website. Documents taken into account include complaints, protection orders or reports to the public prosecutor. Victims wishing to benefit from emergency assistance may be in a couple (married, civil union or common-law) or already separated from their violent partner.
Emergency assistance is not means-tested, but the amount is calculated on the basis of the applicant's income and "family composition", according to the CAF. The aid will be a minimum of €600 and will be paid within "three to five days maximum", promises Aurore Bergé.
