The ring road blocked by a farmers' escargot operation: what lies ahead?

This Friday, February 23, farmers, including some 50 tractors, stormed the Paris ring road, creating major traffic jams. The action, planned ahead of the Salon de l'Agriculture at Porte de Versailles, began at dawn and lasted until 10 a.m., before heading towards the 7th arrondissement for a demonstration.

In the early hours of Friday February 23, Parisians were surprised to find themselves blocked on the ring road. BFMTV reports that around 50 tractors from the Seine-et-Marne region made their appearance at 6.30am. Their destination? Porte de Saint-Cloud. Their objective? To make their voices heard on the eve of the opening of the Salon de l'Agriculture. The escargot operation caused major delays and miles of traffic jams on this vital artery of the capital, illustrating the farmers' determination to make their voices heard.

The farmers' demands, led by figures such as Maxence Wittmann, are based on a clear message: the need to get to Paris to make their voices heard by the government. This day is not just the symbol of a struggle; it is the expression of a desire for dialogue, an invitation to become aware of the realities of the farming world, often ignored by the general public.

Note that the blockade will not stop at the ring road. After gathering at Porte de Saint-Cloud, the tractors will march to the 7th arrondissement, where they will park in Place Vauban, a stone's throw from Les Invalides. This afternoon, between 2pm and 5pm, Coordination rurale, the initiator of the event, is organizing meetings between farmers, citizens, elected representatives and journalists. This is an opportunity for everyone to exchange views with those involved in the rural world.

Other disruptions are also taking place on the A4 freeway to Paris. According to a source in the union police force, they were stopped at Porte de Charenton. Disruptions have also been reported on the A6 motor way, according to franceinfo. In January, farmers had already demonstrated on the roads of the Île-de-France region to demand better working conditions from the government.

Beyond the inconvenience caused on the roads, this day of agricultural mobilization is a reminder of the fundamental importance of agriculture in our society. It highlights the need for a constructive exchange between the agricultural world and the political spheres to guarantee a sustainable future for this key sector. This Saturday, President Emmanuel Macron invited representatives of agricultural and farming organizations to a debate at the inauguration of the Salon de l'Agriculture in Paris.
