The Musée de Minéralogie des Mines Paris - PSL is home to a fascinating yet little-known heritage: the rocks and minerals that surround us! For Museums' Night 2024, this institution invites you to join us this Saturday, May 18, 2024 to discover its program!
The Musée de Minéralogie des Mines houses a large collection of minerals, which began as early as 1767, when Guettard and Monnet began inventorying the kingdom's mineral resources, leading to the work of Jars, Gensanne, Grignon and Schreiber. In 1778, Sage, a "distinguished" mineralogist, succeeded in having a public School of Mineralogy built, where he installed his collections in the grand salon. Today, the Musée de Minéralogie des Mines in Paris houses one of the world's largest and most impressive mineral collections, with unique pieces and rare, precious specimens.
Over 4,000 samples of minerals and rocks are displayed in historic showcases covering more than 1,000m², providing an overview of the earth's mineral composition and highlighting French rocks and minerals: in addition, the architecture of the monument makes for a beautiful visit. Since 2016, three showcases have been dedicated to gems from the French Crown Jewels, extracted from Empress Marie-Louise's finery.
Le programme est mis à jour en fonction des annonces officielles.
