After Hancock the alcoholic superhero in 2008 and the genius in Aladdin in spring 2019, Will Smith dons the clothes of a secret agent confronted by his rejuvenated clone in Gemini Man, a film directed by Ang Lee released in cinemas on October 2, 2019 airs on W9 this Monday, October 14, 2024 at 9:10pm. Will Smith, who co-stars with Clive Owen, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Benedict Wong and Linda Emond, earned an Oscar nomination, and even won the statuette, for his role in The Williams Method before the tragic slap in the face story in 2022.
Ang Lee 's films include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Odyssey of Pi, for which he won the Oscar for Best Director. With Gemini Man, he has created a science-fiction film featuring action, stunts and clones. The idea for the film, originally developed in 1997, was (finally) revived in 2016. Producing the film is Jerry Bruckheimer, the man behind the hit series CSI, F.B.I.: Missing, Cold Case: Cold Cases and Lucifer.
Our review of Gemini Man (2019):
Gemini Man is aimed at movie fans who want to experience great spectacle. It's an action film with stunning image quality and breathtaking visual effects. Indeed, it has the particularity of having been shot in 4K, 3D and 120 frames per second. This allows 3D to be projected at 60 fps for each eye.
Quite simply, it's an unprecedented experience, never before seen on a screen. And from the viewer's point of view, it's obvious. Scenes are incredibly realistic, and on several occasions, insects are caught flying into the camera's field of action. It's not long before you forget your glasses, with true 3D that doesn't hurt your head.
From the director of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Odyssey of the Pi comes a new cinematic experience, but not the only one. As far as the script is concerned, Gemini Man is nonetheless a story that holds up well, with charismatic and moving actors.
Ang Lee succeeds in reviving a young Will Smith with familiar features, as he appears as we knew him from Bad Boys. To achieve this, he naturally drew on archives of the actor's previous films to recreate the character's features.
For the best possible experience, we recommend you watch the film in Dolby Digital - you probably won't regret paying the extra.
