For 49 years, it's been going strong! The Saint André des Arts has become a veritable institution in the Latin Quarter when it comes to arthouse films. And with good reason, as the building's history shows, this vocation has been present from the outset. Originally a hotel, Roger Diamantis bought the building in 1971. Together with two childhood friends, he then renovated it and transformed it into an independent cinema, his dream as a cinephile. On his death in 2010, his wife took over the reins and is committed to keeping the tradition of the Saint André des Arts cinema alive, a name taken from the street on which it is located.
And today, the least we can say is that the cinema is still going strong! Cycles découvertes, cycles juniors, tribune Libre, national releases... the 3 theaters available mean that Saint André des Arts has a wide range of cinema programs. With over 700 debates organized each year, the Tribune Libre cycle offers the chance to watch a film every Thursday, then debate and discuss it in the cinema with a guest speaker (teacher, researcher, writer, etc.) chosen in relation to the theme being discussed. The Découverte cycle, a special feature of the Saint André des Arts cinema, also includes discussions at the end of the screening. The films in this cycle are released exclusively in this cinema, which gives them the chance to see the light of day, in the absence of a distributor. Find out more about the different cycles here!
In addition to these activities, the Saint André des Arts also offers a number of national releases during the week, all in original versions. Only the films in the junior cycle , aimed at children aged 3 and over, are in French. Films are shown in 2K, but some can be expanded to 4K.
The cinema is surrounded by green tourist attractions. Square René Viviani and Square Vert-Galand are less than 10 minutes' walk away. The Saint-Michel fountain is just a few steps away, and the Monnaie de Paris national institution and museum are just a 7-minute walk away. The choice is yours!
