Northeast Paris is getting one of its cultural gems back. The Géode, closed since 2018 for major renovation work, is set to reopen its doors to the general public in the spring of 2024. From now on, this legendary cinema, renowned for its high-end programming and outstanding architecture, will offer a totally new experience thanks to its new IMAX screens.
Located in the heart of the Parc de la Villette next to the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, the Géode is an iconic feature of the Parisian cultural landscape. Its 36-meter-diameter spherical steel structure, designed by architect Adrien Fainsilber, is an integral part of the park's landscape, shimmering against the harmonious backdrop of La Villette.
Inside, the cinema is just as impressive. With its giant 1,000 m² screen covering almost the entire room, the Géode offers unrivalled cinematic immersion. Tilted at 27° to the horizon, the auditorium gives viewers the illusion of being an integral part of the film.
The Géode continues to innovate, occupying a place of choice on the Parisian seventh-art circuit. In addition to its forthcoming reopening, moviegoers will have the privilege of discovering the latest projection technology with IMAX screens.
Previously, spectacular immersion was made possible by the Omnimax process. Films were projected onto a giant hemispherical screen whose size far exceeded the maximum field of human binocular vision, offering an unparalleled experience. However, technological improvements made since then promise to deliver an even more enriching and immersive experience.
As for programming, the Géode will pursue its educational mission with high-quality documentaries. Added to this, short films, feature-length films and high-definition animation will offer grandiose panoramas to spectators of all ages and backgrounds.
The Géode is located at 26 avenue Corentin Cariou 75019 Paris, behind the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie. To get there from the Grande Halle de la Villette, simply cross the park and the bridge over the Canal de l'Ourcq. The exact date of the reopening and the program for the new season will be available soon.
Get ready to leap into the cinematic future with the reopening of the Géode in the Parc de la Villette. This reopening is undoubtedly the cultural event of spring 2024 in Paris.
